Day 2 - Ghent Today we visit central Ghent, a lovely, medieval Flemish town with a wealth of stunning attractions and canals. Day 3 - Ostend A full- day optional excursion today takes us to Ostend, the ' Queen of Belgian resorts'. Ostend has everything for that seaside visit, wide sandy beaches, a long spacious promenade, charming old harbour area, and today is Market Day, so you may well find a bargain or two as well. Day 4 - Brussels To the Belgian capital, Brussels, where a thousand years of history awaits us. Explore on your own or why not join our optional orientation tour - see the Atomium, the Chinese Tower and the Japanese Pavilion and then the tour will pass by the Royal Palace of Laeken. We continue to the city centre on foot to one of the most beautiful squares in the world - the Grand Place. Day 5 - Bruges; Sluis Our included excursion takes us to the ' Venice of the North', Bruges, which is probably Europe's best preserved medieval city, with its medieval almshouses, meandering cobbled lanes and, of course, lovely canals. Spend the whole day here or, in the afternoon, join our optional visit across the border into Holland to nearby Sluis in the province of Zeeland. Day 2 - Cologne En route to the Rhine Valley, we call at the one of the Rhine's premier cities, Cologne. Here you can see the marvellous Dom or Cathedral, one, if not the finest of Germany's churches. After time in Cologne we travel on following the Rhine south past Koblenz to St. Goarshausen and our hotel for four nights. Day 3 - Rhine Valley A full- day included excursion showing us the delights of the Rhine Valley. We see the famous Loreley Rock and then travel to the town of Boppard, the ' Pearl of the Rhine'. Here you have time for sightseeing and the chance to take an optional cruise on the river. The cruise takes us through the Rhine Gorge, famous for its picturesque villages, vine- clad slopes and many ancient castles and fortresses. We also visit the town of Koblenz, where the Rivers Rhine and Moselle meet. Day 4 - Moselle Valley Spend the day in St. Goarshausen or why not join an optional excursion to the Moselle Valley. The Moselle River takes a gentler meandering course, but is just as famous as the Rhine for its fine wines. We head to Cochem with the huge fortress of Reichsburg towering above. In the afternoon why not join an optional winetasting in the nearby village of Alken. Day 5 - Wiesbaden & Rüdesheim Today an included excursion takes us to the imposing spa city of Wiesbaden. Explore the Old Town area ( Altstadt) around the Schlossplatz and enjoy excellent shopping on the elegant Wilhelmstrasse. After time here we visit the traditional wine-town of Rüdesheim. Why not join an optional sightseeing tour with local English-speaking guide to see such famous sights as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Élysées and much, much more. You can also join one of the cruise boats of Bâteaux Parisiens for a one hour long cruise along the River Seine under the famous ' ponts' or bridges.
